Success with Asparagus!

Short post this time, but I’m pretty excited to see these little spears popping out of the ground, so decided to share. These were planted last year, but I wasn’t convinced I did everything correctly for them to come back. I read up on how to get them ready for winter and used the cuttings as mulch to help protect them. It seems to have worked. I added about 4 inches of compost back in March to raise the level of the bed and wasn’t sure if that was too much. Apparently, these little guys were able to grow up and out to the surface! Just harvested some last night thinking that these were labeled as two year old plants last year. According to what I’ve researched, you shouldn’t harvest asparagus until it’s three years old. If they don’t come back next year, we will know I was wrong. Looking forward to watching them spread!
