Best Reward of Farming is the Food, Right?

Between cooking throughout the holidays and winter driving us indoors for more of the day, I’ve had time to ponder. I realized that though I started this blog to help document the successes and failures of farming, at its heart, this blog is really about food. The end goal of farming for me has always been to successfully raise the very best ingredients while supplementing them with third-party high-quality additions and extras.

As with farming, I’m also trying to expand my spectrum of culinary knowledge. I have found that I’m constantly trying to find new, delicious ways to incorporate more of what the farm produces without getting sick of repetition. If you are a vegetable gardener, you probably have grown some sort of squash and ended up with more than you could use or give away. I’m having a grand time experimenting with various recipes as I learn new techniques (think bread making), trying to work my way through some of my favorite cookbooks and researching new ones. This journey has caused me to trip up on some new chefs along the way and I look forward to sharing my thoughts and outcomes here.

I’ve loved to cook since I was a child and most anyone who has been to my house will tell you my philosophy: “if you leave hungry, it’s your own damn fault.” I won’t wear you out with every single thing I cook, but I will share my thoughts on recipes here and there. I tend to take notes in the pages of my cookbooks based on how the first time making a dish went, what I tweaked, what I would do differently next time,  or what I wouldn’t opt to try again.

Hopefully this will be helpful for me as well as anyone who happens to maybe (hopefully) read this blog. Pull up a chair to my table. Cheers!
