Norther Harrier Hanging Out on the Farm
We see a lot of birds of prey out on the farm. We’ve even had a bald eagle fly over from time to time. We have several falcons that hunt here as well as larger red tailed hawks. Last week, we spotted a very different bird of prey and he/she seems to be hanging out. This bird stands out because of a white spot (close to the body) on the tail of the bird. After doing some research and using a spotting scope, we decided it’s a Northern Harrier. We don’t have a camera strong enough to take a decent picture, but this has provided us with much entertainment. Here are some pictures people have posted on the internet that don’t appear to have a copyright. These images represent the bird on our farm almost exactly in terms of coloring.
We are hoping this animal hangs with us until spring, but we shall see.
