Rabbit Attack

It’s been longer than I intended in posting something new. I’ve been fighting a rabbit in the fall garden and it is winning. It’s just about wiped out the fennel, broccoli, cabbage (with the exception of my Bok Choi), beets and most of my lettuce. It hasn’t (knock on wood) impacted my carrots, radishes or most of my greens. I’ve caught it in there several nights while watering during our most recent drought. We really can’t do anything about it until next year when we erect a fence around the garden after confirming that we are done adding raised beds. I was told that taking some chicken wire about a foot high around the garden fence should do the trick. We shall see what next year brings.

On the bright side, here a pic of the bed with radishes, carrots, sage, lavender and some of the rosemary. You can tell I’ve been harvesting the herbs to dry and store them. (I plan to make sachets out of the lavender.) Oh, and please excuse the weeds. We have a lot of rain so I’m waiting for it be a little less muddy before I get out there and attack those.

While the greens have been growing from seed, I’ve not only been drying and processing a bunch of herbs but have canned more tomatoes. I’m not sure how many quarts of tomatoes we have at this point, but I believe it exceeds 50. In the meantime, there are big things brewing on the farm and lots to report in on in the coming weeks or days so stay tuned.
